CIC Counselling

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the length of each session?

What happens if I am unable to attend a session?

How many sessions of counselling will I need?

How frequent are the sessions?

How will I feel during counselling?

Each session lasts 50 minutes; the "therapeutic hour" allows time for reflection and note taking after the client has left.

If you are unable to attend a session for whatever reason I will endeavour to offer you another session in the same week. However, this is subject to availability and a minimum of 24 hours notice is required, otherwise I charge for missed sessions.

This depends entirely on the individual, some clients may feel ready to end their sessions after a few weeks, some may need months. We will continually review how the sessions are going during therapy. No notice is required to stop counselling but it is beneficial to allow a few sessions to bring the process to an end.

Preferably the sessions are once a week on the same day.  I recognise that this is not possible for every clients, especially shift workers; therefore I do offer some flexibility

It may be difficult at first to share intimate, private information with someone you don't know, but hopefully it will be a relief to be able to talk and share your thoughts with someone who will listen, will not judge you and will respect your feelings.

Is counselling confidential?

Counselling is confidential. All counsellors regardless of experience need supervision, this is to protect the client and to improve the ability of the counsellor to give a good service to their client. During supervision the identity of clients remain anonymous.
